Diversity, Language and Communication

Overview

This curriculum unit, although designed for an early childhood classroom, can be altered for various grade and age levels. The focus of this unit is on cultural, linguistic and communication awareness and on encouraging critical thinking.

1. To understand and recognize other countries including basic geography and different languages using Senegal West Africa as an example.
2. To understand and recognize the differences and similarities of others, including culture, language, and communication.
3. To understand the importance of developing self-awareness.
4. To understand cultural and linguistic awareness and to celebrate traditions from around the world.
5. To understand how to become critical thinkers.
